Day 1
On day 1 of the Battle of Gettysburg General Robert E. Lee was behind Washington, DC and the north realized so they moved to meet them. The confederates finally had approached Gettysburg from the North West. Then Union troops had currently gotten the city of Gettysburg for themselves. The two troops met at Seminary Ridge and fought until the Union moved to Cemetery Ridge and Culps hill, forming a candy cane or hook shape. This made Robert E. Lee very unhappy. He wanted the high ground to himself and he had instructed General Euell to go get it. General Euell was too timid so he and his troops halted at Gettysburg while the Union troops continued to claim it. The unions help on to their candy cane on the high land, stretching from Culps Hill to Little Round Top. General Longstreet was concerned about the north fighting this battle because he was so greatly outnumbered. The two troops did not fight at night, and the Confederates ended up winning the first days battle by a long shot.

Day 2
In the Day 2 battle of Gettysburg, the Union had NO desire to attack at all. The Confederates devised a plan to attack both ends of the "candy cane". The very first wave of attacks happened in Peach Orchard. The Southern troops charged out with determination and ran back because the idea resulted in a massacre. The south was pummeled by the north because they just fired down uncontrollably at the south. The 2nd wave of battles happened in Devil's Den, a very rocky place just southeast of Peach Orchard. The Unions decide this time to snipe the southerners as they come in towards Devil's Den. This results in a HUGE fail once again for the confederates because the majority of them were sniped by the Northerners. The 3rd and final wave of the day 2 battles were at Little Round Top. Little Round Top is located just below Devil's Den. The Unions put Major Chamberlin, a teacher, and his troops at the end of the "candy cane". Major Chamberlin was forced to take prisoners back to Maine that did not want to fight, which was the troop called 20th Maine. They were all sent to the end and were doing very good at pushing the south back away from the candy cane. Eventually though, 20th Maine ran out of ammo. They could not run away, they could not shoot, so they made bayonets and charged down the hill. This was the last time the confederates fought the hill and the Union troops stayed put. The Confederates finally retreated.

Day 3
In the 3rd day of the battle of Gettysburg, the flanks did not work. General Lee decides he wants to end the war now and unleashes one of the most powerful cannon fires in the Civil War. The cannon fire was perfectly focused on Clump of trees, where Major Chamberlin was located for safety. The confederates are trying to break the Unions strength with their cannon fires and they're getting ready to produce one of the most powerful front attacks in history. On July 3rd, George Pickett leads the detrimental attack on Clump of Trees. The southern soldiers charge into a picket fence in front of Emmitsburg road. The fence is a huge and deadly obstacle for the Confederates, and the whole area turns into a complete massacre. In the end, one confederate soldier made it alive to the wall of Union soldiers. All of the other soldiers either died in the massacre or headed back because they knew they couldn't make it. Gettysburg ends as a huge turning point in the Civil War. The South ended up losing such a significant amount of troops at Clump of Trees that they could not possibly fight again and retreated south. This resulted in a huge victory for the north.
